1. Stop aiming for 'correct' Chinese—aim for fluent, natural expression with idiomatic phrasing. Scholarship examiners reward sophisticated language use, not just grammatical accuracy. Listen to native speakers (interviews, TED talks, podcasts) to internalize the rhythm and phrasing that mark Outstanding work. 2. Always extrapolate and make independent connections. Examiners consistently note that non-Scholarship work stays close to the stimulus material. When writing or speaking, ask yourself: 'What does this mean beyond what the text says?
