This standard asks you to write Latin sentences that show you understand the language well. You need to write sentences of medium difficulty using proper Latin grammar, word endings, and structures — similar to what a real Latin writer would produce. The focus is on quality and clarity, not how many sentences you write.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Use correct Latin inflections (word endings for nouns, adjectives, verbs) appropriate to your meaning
- ·Construct sentences with medium complexity structures such as relative clauses and purpose clauses (including gerundive constructions)
- ·Choose vocabulary and structures suited to different purposes and contexts
- ·Write sentences clear enough that another Latin reader would understand your meaning without confusion
- ·Produce sentences about people, places, or events that are appropriate for Year 12 level Latin
You write Latin sentences with mostly correct inflections and structures where the main meaning comes through, even if some details are unclear.
You write Latin sentences using more challenging grammar and word endings correctly, so that the meaning and most details are clearly understood by a Latin reader.
