You need to pick a real economic problem that matters to your community or New Zealand right now, and explain what caused it and who it affects using actual economic theories and diagrams. The key is showing you understand both the economic reasoning behind the problem and how different groups of people experience it differently.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Choose a contemporary economic issue (housing affordability, inflation, unemployment, etc.) that is relevant to New Zealand
- ·Identify and define the economic concepts related to your chosen issue
- ·Use economic models (like supply and demand diagrams, Phillips curves, etc.) to explain what causes the issue
- ·Explain the impacts of the issue on different groups in New Zealand society (young people, businesses, low-income families, etc.)
- ·Connect your model explanations directly to real-world impacts
You identify relevant economic concepts, use at least one economic model to explain causes, and describe how the issue affects different groups in society.
You provide detailed explanations of both what causes the issue (using economic models in detail) and comprehensive descriptions of how it impacts various groups, with clear links between causes and impacts.
