This standard asks you to study and analyse how established photographers work—the techniques they use and the ideas behind their choices. You'll need to research at least three photographers from different sources, compare their approaches, and explain why and how their work matters. It's about digging into real photography practice and being able to discuss it thoughtfully.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Research and identify at least three established photographers from at least two different sources (books, galleries, websites, etc.)
- ·Describe and compare the methods these photographers use—their techniques, styles, and ways of working
- ·Identify and examine the ideas behind their work—what they're trying to communicate or explore
- ·Explain how and why these photographers make their work the way they do, and discuss how their work is viewed and valued
- ·Show the similarities and differences between the photographers' approaches
You identify and describe the methods and ideas of at least three photographers from at least two sources, and explain some differences in how they work.
You gather information from a range of sources and use specific examples to discuss the photographers' methods and ideas in greater detail, showing deeper understanding of their approaches.
