AS 92075 is a 4-credit external standard in Te Reo Rangatira at Level 1 (Year 11). Students watch a short film (about a topic relevant to young people — for example, sport or a marae context) and then demonstrate their ability to use language strategies in te reo Māori. The four language strategies they can use are: summarising what was said, adapting the language, rephrasing something, or changing the style or type of language. The exam is sat alongside AS 92076 as a combined written assessment task.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Watch one of two short films provided (students choose which one) — the film is about a topic relevant to young people, such as sport or marae life, and te reo Māori is central to it.
- ·Use at least two language strategies in your written response — choosing from: summarising the content, adapting the language, rephrasing something said, or changing the style/register of language.
- ·Show that you understand what the main ideas in the film were and explain how and why you used the language strategies you chose.
- ·Support your response with evidence and examples drawn from the film, and connect ideas to your own perspective where possible.
You use two language strategies and your response is relevant to the film you chose. You show you understood the general topic and can identify and demonstrate a language strategy, even if your explanation is brief or surface-level.
