In this internal standard, Year 13 German students write several different types of texts in German — for example a letter, a blog post, an essay, or a speech. The writing needs to show that you can share and back up your own views, as well as engage with other people's perspectives, all in clear German suited to the audience and purpose. Because it is internal, your teacher sets and marks the work at school across the year.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Write at least two or more different text types in German (e.g. a formal letter, a personal email, a speech, a blog, an opinion essay).
- ·Cover a real topic or issue where you can share your own views and also consider other points of view.
- ·Match your writing style and format to the audience — for example, formal language for an official letter, more casual language for a blog.
- ·Back up your ideas with reasons, examples, or evidence rather than just stating opinions.
- ·Aim for your meaning to be clear throughout, even if there are some small errors.
Your writing gets the message across clearly in German. You explore some ideas and give basic reasons for your views. There can be some errors in spelling, grammar, or word choice as long as they do not stop the reader understanding you. The format suits the text type reasonably well.
