This standard is testing whether you can read French texts about everyday situations (like school, hobbies, or social activities) and understand what they mean. You'll read passages written in French and answer questions in English to prove you've understood the key information, details, and ideas in the texts.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Read French texts about everyday topics (school, friends, activities, outings) and identify the main information and ideas
- ·Use your knowledge of French vocabulary, grammar, and verb tenses to work out what the text means
- ·Answer questions in English that show you understand specific details and the overall purpose of what you've read
- ·Support your answers with evidence from the text itself, not just guesses or general knowledge
- ·Notice and correctly interpret grammatical details like whether something happened in the past or will happen in the future
You identify the main meanings in the text and communicate a general sense of what it's about, using some details from what you've read.
You select specific evidence from the text and connect different ideas together to show sound understanding, and you notice how grammatical features (like intensifiers or frequency words) affect meaning.
