This standard tests whether you can understand spoken German in everyday situations like shopping, talking about daily life, or discussing familiar topics. You'll listen to recordings in German and answer questions in English to show what you understood. It's designed for students who are just starting to learn German seriously.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Listen carefully to German audio and pick out the main ideas and key details from what you hear
- ·Answer questions in English (or te reo Māori) that ask you to show what the German speakers meant
- ·Explain your understanding in your own words rather than just repeating what was said or quoting the German directly
- ·Support your answers with specific details from the audio to prove you understood correctly
- ·Use your vocabulary knowledge to catch important words and grammar (like comparing things or talking about people) that change the meaning
