This standard asks you to write a detailed description of a real-world action someone or a group took to fight for social justice or human rights. You need to explain why they did it, what happened, who was involved, and what different people thought about it — using relevant ideas from social studies.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Identify a social justice or human rights action (such as a campaign for equal rights, fair treatment, or law change) and explain what it was trying to achieve
- ·Describe the action itself, including who participated in it and what they actually did
- ·Explain the different points of view — what the participants believed, and what others thought about the action
- ·Use relevant social studies concepts and ideas to back up your explanation
- ·For higher grades: discuss the real consequences or outcomes of the action, and evaluate how well it actually achieved its goals
You give a straightforward account of a social justice action, including its purpose, what happened, who was involved, and at least two different viewpoints, using some social studies concepts.
You explain the action in depth, discuss the consequences it had, and show contrasting viewpoints about whether it was a good thing or not.
