You need to research and analyse how established artists actually make their work and the ideas behind their creative choices. This involves studying at least three artists from different sources, comparing their methods and ideas, and explaining why their work matters in the context of art history, culture, or society. Essentially, you're becoming a design detective—finding out not just what artists did, but how and why they did it.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Research at least three different established artists from at least two separate sources (books, galleries, interviews, online resources, etc.)
- ·Identify and describe the specific methods and techniques each artist uses to make their work
- ·Examine the ideas, concepts, and thinking behind why each artist works the way they do
- ·Compare and contrast the similarities and differences between the artists' approaches to making art
- ·Explain how and why these artworks are made, viewed, and valued—showing you understand their significance
You identify and describe the methods and ideas of at least three artists, show basic comparisons between them, and explain some reasons for their approaches using information from multiple sources.
