You need to create a finished artwork that shows you can control the art-making techniques and processes that fit with a particular cultural context you've chosen. This means deliberately picking materials, methods, and styles that work with your chosen culture—whether that's Māori art, protest art, punk aesthetics, or any other cultural style—and executing your piece with skill and intention.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Choose a specific cultural context (like Māori art, gothic art, feminist art, domestic craft, or ethnic traditions) and research what techniques and styles are important in that context
- ·Deliberately select and use appropriate art-making processes, materials, and techniques that fit your chosen cultural context
- ·Complete and finish your artwork so it fully realizes your creative intention
- ·Show purposeful control and decision-making throughout the creation process by demonstrating how each technique and material choice connects to your cultural context
- ·Be able to explain why the skills and methods you used are appropriate and meaningful for the cultural context you selected
Your finished artwork shows you made deliberate choices about techniques and materials that fit your chosen cultural context, and the piece is complete and realises what you set out to do.
