You'll answer questions about the information, the speakers' attitudes, and what they really mean—not just what the words say literally. Your answers need to pull together information from the whole text and show you understand the deeper meaning, tone, and context.

- ·Identify the main ideas and key information from extended Japanese audio passages on various topics (social issues, culture, technology, etc.)
- ·Recognise the speakers' attitudes, tone, and implied meanings by listening carefully to how they say things, not just what they say
- ·Select relevant information from across the entire text that directly answers the question, avoiding repetition and general knowledge
- ·Link information together and draw logical conclusions based on context and nuance you pick up from the text
- ·Communicate your understanding clearly in English, Te Reo Māori, or Japanese—supporting your points with specific examples from what you heard
