This standard asks you to explain how a current environmental issue affects human health — both the good and bad impacts. You need to identify ways to reduce the negative effects or boost the positive ones, showing you understand the real-world connections between what happens to our environment and how it affects the people living in it.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Identify a current environmental issue (like marine conservation, river protection, native forest preservation, coastal management, or biosecurity) that's relevant to your community
- ·Explain both the positive and negative effects this environmental issue has on human health and wellbeing
- ·Describe at least one practical strategy or approach to reduce the negative effects or increase the positive effects
- ·Show your understanding goes beyond just your immediate situation — consider impacts on the wider community and not just yourself
- ·Use relevant examples and evidence to support your explanation
You identify an environmental issue, describe both positive and negative health impacts, and suggest one way to improve the situation.
You illustrate the health impacts with examples relevant to different groups of people (yourself, others, the wider community) and explain your improvement strategies thoughtfully.
