This standard asks you to pick a science idea from New Zealand or the Pacific and describe how different features of science helped it develop. You need to identify what science does (like collecting data, using technology, responding to problems) and explain how those things contributed to creating or improving the science idea you chose.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Pick a local (NZ or Pacific) science idea and identify at least two features of science that contributed to its development
- ·Describe what each feature of science actually is (for example, collecting data that can be checked, using new technology, or responding to a real need)
- ·Explain how each feature of science actually helped develop or improve the science idea
- ·Give specific examples from your chosen context to back up what you're saying
- ·For higher grades, show how the features worked together or discuss how they interacted in developing the idea
