This standard tests whether you can have a real conversation in Japanese without a script, talking about things that matter to you — your experiences, plans, and ideas. You need to speak Japanese well enough to share information and respond to what others say, even if you make small mistakes along the way.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Use Japanese naturally in unscripted conversation (not memorised speeches)
- ·Talk about events or experiences from your present, past, or future
- ·Ask questions and respond to what others say, using strategies like asking for clarification or self-correcting when you notice a mistake
- ·Use a variety of vocabulary and sentence structures that fit the conversation topic
- ·Communicate your meaning clearly enough that listeners understand you, despite occasional small errors
You interact in spoken Japanese to share and respond to information, using relevant language in unrehearsed conversation about events or experiences, and overall communication comes across despite some inconsistencies.
You interact capably by using interactive strategies to support the flow of conversation, demonstrating a range of vocabulary and sentence structures, building on what your conversation partner says, and communicating clearly with only minor errors that don't significantly hinder understanding.
