You need to show that you understand how different people had different viewpoints about a major historical event that matters to New Zealand. You'll need to explain what each person or group believed, why they believed it, and what they did about it — using real historical evidence to back up your interpretation.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Select a historically significant event (either something that happened in New Zealand, involved New Zealanders overseas, or affected New Zealanders) and explain why it matters to us today
- ·Identify at least two different people or groups involved in that event and describe what each one believed or wanted
- ·Explain the reasons behind each perspective — what shaped why they thought the way they did
- ·Describe what actions each person or group actually took based on their beliefs
- ·Use specific historical evidence (documents, quotes, dates, names) to support your interpretation of their different viewpoints
You accurately explain at least two different perspectives from a significant historical event, with reasons and supporting evidence for each viewpoint.
You explain multiple perspectives showing clear understanding of why people held different views, with relevant supporting evidence that shows the connections between their beliefs and actions.
