This standard asks you to create a sustained body of printmaking work that shows you understand and can use printmaking techniques and conventions in meaningful ways. You need to show systematic development of ideas—building on earlier work, refining your approach, and regenerating your concepts—to produce a final resolved outcome that demonstrates depth and coherence.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Establish a clear brief or proposal that outlines your printmaking topic, intended audience, and what you want to communicate
- ·Conduct purposeful research and investigation into artist models and printmaking conventions that relate to your ideas
- ·Generate original print-based work and assets (not relying on found imagery or templates) that show your personal style
- ·Develop and refine your ideas systematically through multiple iterations, showing how later work builds on and transforms earlier experiments
- ·Produce fully resolved, cohesive final prints that demonstrate technical control, conceptual depth, and consideration of your intended audience
You establish a clear brief, analyse some artist models, generate original prints with adequate technical skill, and show some development across iterations, but your regeneration of ideas is limited and your approach may be narrow or repetitive.
