This standard asks you to show you understand how electrical systems work, including circuits with capacitors, inductors, transformers, and AC circuits. You need to be able to explain these concepts, do calculations using relevant formulas, and connect different ideas together to solve problems.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Explain key electrical concepts like EMF, capacitance, inductance, and reactance clearly and accurately
- ·Use Kirchhoff's laws and other equations to solve circuit problems with resistors, capacitors, and inductors
- ·Describe what happens in circuits when switches open or close (including how capacitors and inductors behave differently)
- ·Calculate values like time constants, induced EMF, reactance, and peak/RMS voltages using the correct formulas
- ·Connect concepts together to explain why circuits behave the way they do—for example, why a lamp glows when a capacitor charges or why a magnet slows down near a coil
You explain basic electrical concepts correctly, can substitute values into formulas, identify what's happening in simple circuits, and do straightforward calculations like finding time constants or induced EMF.
