Energy systems
Demonstrate understanding of a physical system using energy concepts
Study with Coach
Save your actual school result to count your credits.
This standard asks you to show that you understand how energy works in real-world situations, like falling objects, electrical circuits, or heating. You'll describe what's happening physically, explain what energy changes are occurring and why, and work with calculations or diagrams to demonstrate your knowledge. It's about connecting the dots between what you observe and the energy concepts behind it.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Describe the physical system clearly (what objects or setup you're looking at, and what physical properties matter—like height, temperature, or motion).
- ·Identify and describe the energy changes happening, using evidence from calculations, diagrams, or observations.
- ·Use the correct energy formulas or concepts (like kinetic energy, potential energy, thermal energy, or power) and show your working.
- ·Explain *why* the energy changes are happening the way they do, linking the physics concepts to what's actually going on in the situation.
- ·For higher grades, connect multiple energy ideas together and evaluate what happens as a result of those changes.
You can identify the energy equation needed, plug in some numbers correctly, and describe basic energy changes (like 'energy is lost').
