Critical path analysis is a way to figure out the fastest or most efficient way to complete a project that has lots of connected tasks. You'll learn to use diagrams and calculations to identify which tasks are essential (critical) and which ones have some flexibility built in, then apply this to real problems.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Select and use appropriate methods like precedence tables, network diagrams, or scheduling techniques to solve a problem
- ·Demonstrate you understand key concepts and terminology (critical path, critical events, float time, scheduling)
- ·Create and interpret network diagrams that show how tasks connect and depend on each other
- ·Find the critical path and identify which activities have float time (slack time)
- ·Communicate your findings clearly using correct diagrams and mathematical statements
You correctly select a method, build a network diagram or precedence table, find the critical path, and explain which tasks control the project timeline.
You work through a logical sequence of steps, connect the diagram to the scheduling context, and explain how float times affect which tasks matter most.
