This standard asks you to write pieces (creative or non-fiction) where you develop your ideas clearly and use language techniques on purpose. You need to make deliberate choices about vocabulary, style, and how you structure your writing to suit who you're writing for and what you're trying to achieve, all while keeping your spelling, grammar, and punctuation accurate enough that readers understand your meaning.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Choose and develop one main idea or topic, adding details, examples, or explanations that build on each other
- ·Use stylistic techniques deliberately — such as vivid vocabulary, figurative language (metaphors, similes), or sound devices — to create an effect and match your audience and purpose
- ·Structure your writing with a clear introduction, body paragraphs that flow logically, and a conclusion, using paragraphing and transitions to guide the reader
- ·Control your spelling, grammar, punctuation, and dialogue formatting so errors don't get in the way of meaning
- ·Edit and proofread your work carefully to refine your language choices and catch mistakes before submitting
You develop a straightforward idea with some stylistic features, structure your writing sequentially with mostly clear organisation, and use enough correct conventions so readers understand your meaning, though the work may be predictable and contain some technical errors.
