AS92007 is a 5-credit external standard where you create a mini portfolio showing how you designed a digital technology outcome (like an app, website, or game). You don't build the thing — you design it. That means planning what it will look like and how it will work, getting feedback, improving your design, and then explaining why your final design is a good fit for its purpose. You also need to discuss manaakitanga or kaitiakitanga (caring for others / guardianship) in a genuine way through your design choices.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Describe a real need or opportunity your design is solving, who the users are, and what the design needs to do (requirements).
- ·Generate a range of design ideas — sketches, diagrams, mock-ups, or annotated plans showing different options for how your outcome could look or work.
- ·Get feedback on your design and use it to make real, visible improvements — not just pick between ideas.
- ·Produce a completed design that clearly shows how your outcome would look and/or function.
- ·Explain how your completed design addresses the need and meets the requirements.
- ·Discuss how manaakitanga (caring for users and their wellbeing) or kaitiakitanga (responsible guardianship of resources or data) genuinely shaped your design decisions — not just as a theme, but as deliberate choices you made.
You show a clear design process: you identify a need, users, and requirements; you generate design ideas; and you produce a completed design with a description of how it meets the need. You may have collected feedback but don't clearly show how it led to improvements.
