In this internal assessment, you plan and design a media product — like a short film, music video, magazine page, or website — before actually making it. You show your thinking process: what your product will be, who it's for, how you'll make it, and what could go wrong along the way. You don't build the final product here; this is all about the planning stage.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Come up with a concept — a creative idea that explains what your media product is, who it's for, and what message or effect you want it to have.
- ·Write a treatment — a detailed description of how you'll bring your concept to life, including things like genre, tone, characters, and the specific media techniques you'll use (e.g. camera angles, layout, sound effects).
- ·Create a full production plan — including scripts, storyboards, page dummies or clocks, a timeline with key dates, permissions you need, cast or talent, equipment, and resources.
- ·Think about practicalities — what could get in the way (weather, costs, equipment, location, people) and how those things might affect your production.
- ·Show evidence that you reflected on your ideas and made changes and improvements along the way.
You produce a concept, treatment, and plan that covers the basics — your choices fit the brief, you use key features of your chosen medium or genre, you've thought about what could go wrong, you have milestone dates and resources listed, and your product would have some appeal to your target audience.
