You need to perform 3+ dances in different styles or with different movement vocabularies, showing you can nail the technical and stylistic details that make each dance unique. The difference between grades is about how deeply you understand and show off those stylistic differences—at the top level, you're capturing the emotional content and fine details that bring each dance to life.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Perform three or more contrasting dances with different movement vocabularies and styles
- ·Reproduce the correct movement vocabulary, timing, and rhythm for each individual dance (e.g. 3/4 time for waltz, off-beat for flamenco)
- ·Show different body shapes, postural alignment, and expression for each dance (sharp angular movements versus curved shapes, upright versus gravity-based posture)
- ·Maintain accurate timing, focus and expression that matches the distinct mood and idea behind each dance
- ·Convey the emotional content and expressiveness of each dance, including character personas or abstract ideas
