You need to create and perform a short solo dance that clearly shows one main idea, feeling, or image you want to communicate. Your dance must use different movement types, levels, and directions, and it should be organized in a way that makes sense from start to finish—not just random movements strung together.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Define a clear intention (idea, mood, or image) before you choreograph
- ·Use different types of movement including at least two different ways of traveling, different levels (high/middle/low), different directions and pathways, and different ways you face while dancing
- ·Organize your movements so they have a beginning and end that connect, with some repetition of phrases so it feels intentional
- ·Make your movement choices deliberately connect to and support your main idea
- ·Create smooth transitions between movements so the dance flows rather than feeling choppy or disconnected
You choreograph a solo dance with a clear intention, use the required dance elements (different locomotion, levels, pathways, and facing), and organize movements with a structured beginning and end.
