This standard asks you to understand how real technological systems work by knowing their operational parameters—the specific ranges and limits within which they operate safely and effectively. You need to pick a complex system (like air conditioning) and a highly complex system (like a smart home or fuel injection system), identify their measurable operating limits, and explain what technical and social factors determined those limits and how they affect maintenance and design.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Identify a complex technological system and list its specific operational parameters as measurable ranges (for example, temperature ranges, pressure limits, or voltage thresholds)
- ·Explain the concepts and reasons behind why those parameters were set (such as how human comfort needs, safety standards, or environmental conditions shaped the limits)
- ·Show how operational parameters allow the system to function correctly and how they enable maintenance work to be done safely
- ·Choose a highly complex (self-regulating or intelligent) system and identify both the social factors (like standards, regulations, or user needs) and technical factors (like material properties or engineering constraints) that set its operational parameters
- ·Discuss how operational parameters influence the overall design, development, and maintenance of both your chosen systems
You distinguish between complex and highly complex systems, identify measurable operational parameters in a complex system, explain the concepts behind them, and describe how they affect function and maintenance; you also identify a highly complex system and explain both social and technical factors that shaped its parameters.
