Prototype development
Develop a prototype considering fitness for purpose in the broadest sense
Study with Coach
Save your actual school result to count your credits.
You'll design and build a working prototype (a test version of something) and check whether it actually does what it's supposed to do. You'll test it, get feedback from people who might use it, and decide what changes to make based on real evidence. The "broadest sense" means you need to think about not just whether it works technically, but also whether it's safe, ethical, sustainable, and culturally appropriate.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Select and use appropriate materials, components, tools and techniques to actually build your prototype based on the context and requirements
- ·Test your prototype and collect feedback from stakeholders (the people who would use it) to see how well it works in real conditions
- ·Make changes to your prototype based on what the testing and feedback tells you, and explain why you accepted or modified things
- ·Keep testing and refining your prototype to improve its fitness for purpose (how well it meets the brief)
- ·Consider the wider impact: is it safe, ethical, sustainable, culturally appropriate, and what about its lifecycle and disposal?
You build a working prototype, test it, gather some feedback, and explain some of your decisions to keep or change it based on how well it works.
