You need to take an existing piece of music (like a piano piece, hymn, or song) with at least 48 bars and score it for a small group of instruments playing together. Your job is to decide which instruments play which parts, making smart choices about how they combine to create interesting sounds. You'll submit a written score, an audio recording, and the original music.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Select and score existing musical material (at least 48 bars) across at least four independent instrument or vocal parts
- ·Demonstrate knowledge of what notes each instrument can play (their range) and how they're actually played (their techniques)
- ·Make deliberate choices about which instruments work well together and what different sounds they create
- ·Show variety in how thick or thin the music sounds by changing which instruments play in different sections
- ·Create a clear, accurate written score that another musician could actually play from
