You'll design and build something real that solves a problem for someone—but the key is that you experiment with different materials along the way to figure out which ones work best. You need to test out how materials behave, combine them, or shape them in different ways, then use what you learn to create your final product.

- ·Explore how different materials behave by testing and experimenting with them (changing their structure, mixing them, forming them, or manipulating them)
- ·Create a purposeful outcome (something that actually solves a real need or problem for a person, whānau, or community)
- ·Document your experimentation process and what you discover about each material
- ·Talk to people who will actually use your product or who have relevant expertise, and use their feedback to guide your material choices
- ·Show that you understand why you picked the materials you used in your final product
