You need to pick a real nutritional issue that affects New Zealand families and examine why people believe what they believe about it, what attitudes they hold, and how those beliefs affect the food choices they actually make. You'll explain the reasons behind these beliefs and practices, and consider how evidence either supports or challenges them.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Choose a specific, real nutritional issue relevant to NZ families (for example, sugar consumption, food insecurity, cultural dietary practices, or obesity)
- ·Identify and explain the beliefs people hold about this issue—both personal views and wider societal viewpoints
- ·Describe the attitudes and actual food practices families engage in related to this issue—what they eat, where they shop, how they store or prepare food, cultural expectations
- ·Explain the reasons why families hold these particular beliefs and practices, using evidence to support your reasoning
- ·For Merit/Excellence, examine whether the evidence actually supports these beliefs or whether misconceptions exist, and show where assumptions might be challenged
You identify and explain the beliefs, attitudes and practices around a nutritional issue, and give reasons for why families think and act this way.
