You need to carefully analyse a food advertisement and explain how its techniques influence what people eat and their well-being. This means identifying what the ad explicitly shows, uncovering the hidden messages it's trying to send, and then critically challenging whether those messages are actually valid or persuasive.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Identify the advertising techniques used in the advertisement (e.g., using role models, promotional deals, emotional appeals) and describe the explicit features that demonstrate each technique
- ·Uncover the implicit (hidden) messages behind those techniques — what is the ad really trying to make you believe or feel, rather than what it literally says
- ·Explain how these implicit messages influence people's food choices and affect their well-being across multiple dimensions (physical, mental, social, spiritual)
- ·Analyse your target audience — who is this ad designed to appeal to, and why would these messages resonate with them emotionally
- ·Challenge the validity of the implicit messages with reasoned arguments, using your own nutritional knowledge to support whether the advertising claims hold up
You accurately identify the advertising techniques used and describe what the ad explicitly shows, then explain how these messages could influence food choice and affect at least one dimension of well-being.
