You need to create a collection of sculpture work that shows you understand how sculptors actually work and what ideas they explore. Your portfolio should demonstrate that you've thought carefully about your choices and learned the key techniques and approaches that real sculptors use. This means showing your learning journey across two large panels of work, with clear evidence of planning, making, trying things out, and improving your ideas.
What to do, grades and common mistakes
- ·Generate your own authentic starting points and ideas for sculpture (not copying or using AI-generated concepts as shortcuts)
- ·Select and arrange your finished sculpture pieces thoughtfully to show you understand how sculptors think about space, material, form, and the viewer's experience
- ·Document your making process so examiners can see how you tested ideas, refined techniques, and made deliberate decisions about what works and what doesn't
- ·Explore how established sculptors have tackled similar problems, then apply what you've learned to develop your own work with real technical skill
- ·Fill both A1 panels with sufficient, well-developed work that shows sustained effort and clear progression of ideas across different projects
You present a body of sculpture work that connects to your chosen ideas, shows you understand basic sculptural processes and materials, and demonstrates decision-making in how you've selected and arranged your pieces.
